A Journey of Healing, Growth, and Connection
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to helping others — to listening, understanding, and offering support through life’s toughest moments. That calling eventually led me to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Bakersfield, Kern County, CA. Today, I’m honored to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they heal, grow, and take back control of their lives.
I believe real change happens when you feel truly heard, understood, and empowered. That’s the experience I strive to create for every person who walks through my door — with a little extra support from my trusted animal therapy partners when needed.
My Path to Becoming a Therapist
My professional journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from California State University, Fullerton in 2006. While studying, I realized that helping people navigate their emotions and life's complexities wasn’t just an interest — it was my purpose.
Eager to deepen my knowledge, I pursued a Master of Science in Counseling with a focus on Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix, graduating in 2011. This formal education gave me the tools to turn passion into practice.
Over a Decade of Experience
Before opening my private practice, I spent more than 10 years working within the child welfare system, collaborating closely with:
- Schools to support at-risk youth
- The Department of Human Services
- The Department of Probation
Together, we worked to create safer, more supportive environments for children and families. These experiences strengthened my belief that change is possible — especially when people feel safe, supported, and truly seen.
Transitioning into private practice allowed me to broaden my work, offering counseling to individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
What I Specialize In
I provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy for challenges including:

🐾 Meet Deion
In-Training Therapy Dog. Professional Snuggler. Expert Listener.
Hi, I’m Deion! I may be small, but don’t let my tiny paws fool you—I play a big role in helping people feel safe, seen, and supported.
I’m a miniature Dachshund with a big heart and a bigger personality. Whether I’m curled up beside you on the couch, offering a gentle nudge when things feel tough, or just giving you that look (you’ll know the one), I’m here to help you feel at ease.
I’m specially trained as a therapy dog, which means I’ve got the skills—and the snuggles—to support you during your sessions. I’ve worked with kids, teens, adults, and families, and I’m pretty great at making new friends. (Bonus: I don’t judge, I never interrupt, and I always keep your secrets.)
When I’m not in session, you can usually find me napping in sunbeams, racing in Daschund Derby's, Jumping off Dock Diving,, or chasing squeaky toys like it’s my full-time job.
I can’t wait to meet you. Bring your whole self—I’ll bring the tail wags. 🐾
Changing The World, One Person At A Time
I am a firm believer that for therapy to be successful, the therapeutic relationship is an important foundation for one to establish concerns openly and honestly. I assist my clients by helping them explore the strengths and feelings of defeat in order to make changes, gain insight, and reach their goal(s).
I began this practice as a realization of my passion, but time has taught me that it means much more to me. I wish to give my clients a safe, free, comfortable environment to untangle their own selves and help them gain insight into their life's happenings, helping them pave their way to success.
